UGC-NET/JRF PSYCHOLOGY

The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine eligibility for lectureship and for award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. The Test is conducted in Humanities (including languages), Social Sciences, Forensic Science, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science and Applications and Electronic Science.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) conducts the UGC-CSIR NET for other Science subjects, namely, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical  Sciences and Earth Atmospheric Ocean & Planetary Sciences jointly with the UGC. The tests are conducted twice in a year generally in the months of June and December. For candidates who desire to pursue research, the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) is available for five years subject to fulfilment of certain conditions. UGC has allocated a number of fellowships to the universities for the candidates who qualify the test for JRF. The JRFs are awarded to the meritorious candidates from among the candidates qualifying for eligibility for lectureship in the NET. JRFs are available only to the candidates who opt for it in their application forms.

NTA UGC NET 2018 (December Session)

The National Testing Agency would conduct the next session of the exam in December 2018. The tentative schedule for the examination is as follows:

As per the press meet held by HRD Ministry, there wouldn’t be any change in the NTA UGC NET 2018 December exam pattern and syllabus. The only change that has been prescribed by the Agency is that from the academic year 2018-19 onwards, the NET exam would be held in the ONLINE mode. Further changes (if any) would be announced in the official notification of the exam which is expected to release in September 2018.

UGC NET 2018 Exam Pattern:

Paper-I   Consists of 50 questions on teaching/research aptitude, reasoning ability, divergent thinking, comprehension and general awareness.
Paper-II  Consists of 100 objective type questions of 2 marks each based on the subject selected by the candidates.

UGC NET Exam 2018 Eligibility:

As per National Testing Agency, the eligibility criteria for UGC NET December 2018 exam will remain the same. Here are the details:

Educational Qualification:

  • A candidate should have a Master’s Degree from a recognised University or Institution of India.
  • He/ she should have a minimum aggregate of 55% marks. However, a candidate belonging to the Reserved category (SC/ST/OBC/PWD) should have a minimum score of 50% marks.
  • Relaxation of 5% marks is given to the candidates who have qualified their Masters by 19th September 1991.
  • Candidates who are appearing in their final year exams are also eligible to apply.
For JRF (Junior Research Fellowship) :
  • Age Limit – The candidate should not be more than 30 years of age.

For Assistant Professor

  • No upper age limit to apply for the post of Assistant professor.

Relaxation in the Upper Age Limit

  • Reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD) will be given relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit.
  • The candidates with LL.M degree will be given 3 years age relaxation in the JRF Exam.
  • Candidates who have research experience will also be given proper relaxation in the age limit.

Certain categories of candidates are exempted from the requirement of the NTA NET Exam qualification to apply for the Assistant Professor post. Check below-

  • SET Exam qualified before 1st June 2002 – Those candidates, who have qualified the SET (State Eligibility Test) before 1st June 2002 are not required to qualify the NET Exam additionally. They can apply directly for the post of Assistant Professor in any University and Colleges of India.
  • SET Exam qualified candidates after 1st June 2002 – Those candidates who have qualified the SET (State Eligibility Test), but on a later date after 1st June 2002 are also exempted from the NET Exam. However, they cannot apply in Universities and Colleges across all over India. They can apply for the post of Assistant Professor only in the State from which they have qualified their SET Exam.
  • Candidates with PhD Degree – Those candidates who have PhD degree, as per the University Grant Commission are also exempted from the requirement of NET/ SET/SELT. They can apply directly in any University and Colleges of India for the post of Assistant Professor.
  • UGC-JRF Qualified – Those candidates who have already qualified the UGC –Junior Research Fellowship Exam are also exempted from the requirement of NET. The can also apply to University and Colleges of their choice across all over India for the Assistant Professor post.
  • CSIR-JRF Qualified –Those candidates who have qualified the Junior Research Fellowship program of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research are also exempted from NET. They can apply for the post of Assistant Professor in any University or College across all over India.

Exemption from Requirement of UGC NET Exam

Certain categories of candidates are exempted from the requirement of the NTA NET Exam qualification to apply for the Assistant Professor post. Check below-

UGC NET Exam 2018 Application Process:

The application process will be online. The notification regarding the application process will tentatively be released in September 2018.  Follow the steps provided below to fill the application form:

  • Visit the official website for the NTA UGC NET 2018 exam.
  • Candidates are required to fill the application form, upload the scanned copies of all necessary documents, like photograph and signature and finally pay the requisite application fee.
  • After making payment of the application fee, the candidates should download the fee confirmation page for future references. The confirmation receipt should not be sent to the examination conducting authority. Instead, it should be kept by the candidate.

Fee once paid is non-refundable under all circumstances.

Please Note:

Keep a check on the ‘Fee Status’ after the payment of the fee. Once you see the status is ‘OK’, take a printout of the confirmation page. The fee will remain the same for UGC NET 2018 exam.

The application fee can be paid both online as well as offline. Applicants can submit their application fee online through Credit Card, Debit Card or Net Banking. They can also deposit their application fee offline through the Bank E-challan generated online. They should pay in cash to the Canara/Syndicate/ICICI Bank.

Important Changes and Points:

  • UGC NET exam would be computer-based. That means, the exam would be like BANK PO, SSC etc. (ONLINE EXAMS)
  • Candidates can choose Date and Time (from 02-12-2018 to 16-12-2018) according to their convenience.
  • NTA will establish a network of test practice Centres for students of rural areas so that everyone will have an opportunity to practice before the exam.
  • Exam would be conducted once in a year (as per the conference)
  • No changes in SYLLABUS, EXAM PATTERNS and Exam fee.
